Stavros watched Annie’s eyes, noticing the confusion in those emerald depths. She was so beautiful, and so completely different from the mercenary and self-centered women that were normally seen on his arm. He should have anticipated the press’ reaction. He should have known that the damn announcement of his wedding to someone unlike anyone he’d ever dated before would cause a ruckus. He should have anticipated so many issues and, because of his lack of foresight, Annie had been in danger.

His fingers tightened on her hand for a moment. He knew that he should release her hand, but her skin was so soft! “Since I’ve failed you so completely, I will not hold you to the rest of our arrangement. If you wish to skip the next few days, I will understand.” He rubbed his thumb over the back of her hand again, unable to stop himself. What the hell did she put on her skin that made her feel so…tender and supple? Her skin was like satin! Plus, he couldn’t get the image of her soft thighs out of his mind. The lace and the garters had only made her legs look even sexier.

She looked up at him and his heart did a leap even as his groin twitched with renewed lust. Her eyes…they were shockingly beautiful and showed him everything she was thinking and feeling. Well, her eyes and those lovely blushes.

“You’re going to send me back to the insanity that’s going to descend on my bakery?”

Stavros heard the teasing lilt to her voice, which was so unexpected that he lifted his eyes from her legs. Slowly, her words and their meaning sunk into his lust-muddled mind and he shook his head. “No, you’re right. You can’t go back to the bakery. Not until all of this subsides.” He sighed, looking out the window for a moment. “Okay, how about this, we could….”

He stopped when she put a hand over his. The touch was so startling, he couldn’t think for a long moment. It also took him a few precious seconds to remember that he couldn’t pull her onto his lap and kiss her until she was in the same state of need as he was.

“We’ll continue as planned,” she told him softly, her voice gentle, but firm. “Everything will die down and then our lives can get back to normal and our businesses will be safe from whatever threat was hanging over our heads recently.”

Stavros stared at Annie, telling himself that this was a bad idea. It was hard enough to keep his hands to himself here in a limousine. How the hell was he going to keep his hands from pulling her into his arms while on his private island?!

But then her safety came back to him and he nodded sharply. He’d simply ignore this inconvenient lust and deal with it the way he’d dealt with all the other trials his life had handed him. He’d survive. No one actually died from lust, he told himself. At least, not yet.
